Where to start

Divorce in Ukraine is possible through the civil registry office or through court. The civil registry route is usually used when both spouses agree to dissolve the marriage and they do not have minor children together.

Documents and evidence

If there are children, a property dispute, one spouse does not agree, or one spouse does not appear, the matter is usually resolved through court. In that case it is important to prepare the claim correctly, attach the necessary documents, and think through related issues in advance: the child’s place of residence, child support, communication arrangements, and division of property.

What to watch for

Before a consultation, it is useful to prepare passport details, the marriage certificate, children’s birth certificates, information about where the parties live, and a short description of the situation. If you already have court documents or correspondence, it is better to have them available as well.

How a lawyer can help

A lawyer can help assess which route fits your situation, which claims should be included from the start, and how to avoid unnecessary delays.
